Purpose

Where the programme regulations permit, learners may apply for an exit award if they wish to discontinue their study before completion of their enrolled programme.

The aim of this policy is to:

  • enhance learner progression into and between the national qualifications
  • recognise the multiple pathways that learners take to gain NQF qualifications through exit pathways

Roles and Responsibilities

The Learner Support Team will be responsible to handle the Career Progression and Tracking the Learners. These include Admin Staff ,Trainers (subject matter experts) and the Sales Staff

Timeline: Dependent on case to case

Scope

During the course of study, some learners may be unable to complete the full qualification for which they enrolled. If this occurs, there is no formal recognition of their achievement to that point in time. In some circumstances, they may have completed sufficient units to be granted a lower qualification than their enrolled programme. Exit pathways will provide this recognition without judgement concerning the reason for the termination of studies.

The only exception is where a learner has discontinued from THD on disciplinary grounds.

Process

The Learner Support team will assist all learners to identify and explore appropriate and relevant progression/career routes, which include:

  • Careers resources
  • Job Search guidance and CV building, interview guidance
  • Advice and support to ensure a smooth transition to employment or higher academic opportunities

THD will ensure that the progression and learning pathways developed for our NQF qualifications:

  • can facilitate vertical and horizontal access across levels
  • are clear and transparent to learners
  • enable flexible qualification pathways
  • eliminate unfair or unnecessary barriers for learner access to NQF qualifications

THD will ensure that any progression or exit pathways will be clearly built into the NQF qualification structure, along with credits, units, learning outcomes and assessment criteria and this will be published in the course handbooks and brochures.

All learners will have access to accurate information regarding programmes such as:

  • aims, structure and content of the programme
  • selection criteria/procedures
  • study methods and mode of attendance
  • post-course opportunities/progression routes
  • exit awards

The Learning Pathways at THD are based on the demand of the learners and also available pathways or progression provided by the Awarding Bodies.
For the local programmes the Learning Support team assists in the career counselling and provide learners with a mix of courses approved from MLSD and NQF programmes

Tracking the Graduates of THD

THD ensures to track the graduated learners qualified from all course categories via telecons, emails and visits to the employers’ offices.
