Aim

This manual has been developed to ensure the health and safety of Tylos Human Development’s staff, learners, contractors, trainers, and visitors. This is done to encourage the implementation of sound health and safety policies in all activities. Tylos Human Development requires all the above- mentioned personnel to act responsibly and comply with the safety policies and guidelines.

Tylos Human Development is committed to achieving and maintaining the highest practical standards of the workplace’s health and safety procedures. Tylos Human Development accepts its responsibility to be aware of the said provisions.

Tylos Human Development has the responsibility to provide as far as it is practicable the following

  • A safe place to work.
  • Safe system to work.
  • Safe tools and equipment.
  • Safe positive supervision at all levels.
  • Investigation of all near misses, incidents and accidents.
  • The reporting of all hazards.
  • Implementation of all practicable control measures to protect people and property.
  • Periodic inspection of physical assets and activities

Responsibilities of THD’s Management

Tylos Human Development, as a training institute, has an obligation to ensure the health and safety of the workplace for the personnel by preventing or minimizing exposure to risks. The guidelines are as following:

  • Provide health and safety training and information to all staff. Formal, structured training sessions are provided to the staff of THD for improvement in knowledge and skills related to workplace health and safety.
  • Ensure that all the employees are aware of the evacuation procedures during emergencies and know the location of the assembly point.
  • Conduct refresher staff health and safety training and re-training when necessary.
  • Review these policies every two years by consulting a competent person.
  • Investigate the circumstances surrounding all accidents and take corrective action.
  • Provide healthy and safe working environment, tools, equipment, workload, workstation, and work schedules.
  • Follow legal health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Provide adequate fire safety equipment and maintain them.
  • Assign the name of the person who is responsible for making sure all fire extinguishers, exits, emergency lights, fire alarm, sings, etc. are in order.
  • Provide adequate supervision and enforcement to monitor and control staff behaviors related to health and safety.
  • Set the appropriate example of leadership by following health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Encourage all trainers to provide the safety rules introduction to the learners/learner at the beginning of every training course.
  • Ensure all staff/trainers/management read and understand this policy.
  • Make this policy available to all staff/trainer/learners to read and review.

THD’s Staff Responsibilities

  • Follow legal health and safety policies and regulations of THD
  • Participate in health and safety training provided by THD
  • Perform assignments and tasks safely to minimize injuries and illnesses.
  • Report all hazard and take the appropriate control measures to eliminate or reduce risks.
  • Report to supervisor any discomfort, injuries and other illnesses related to the work.
  • Report all near misses, incidents, accidents, illness, and injuries to their supervisor.
  • Seek appropriate first aid and treatment for minor injuries to their supervisor.
  • Do not put yourself at risk or others.
  • Take regular breaks (At least 15 minutes every 2 hours working) and stop working immediately when fatigued.
  • Tackle small fires properly trained and follow evacuation procedures in an emergency or as instructed.
  • Plan the journey and travel a reasonable distance during the days driving considering factors such as roadway and traffic conditions, legal spend, driving time.
  • Avoid when possible driving in risky hazardous situations (Heavy rain, fog, flood etc.)

Other Responsibilities

Trainers, learners, visitors and other have an obligation to comply with the instructions given by THD for workplace health and safety, as following:

  • Not to interfere with misuse of health and safety equipment willfully or recklessly.
  • Not to willfully place at risk the health and safety of anyone in the center.
  • Not willfully injure themselves.
  • Follow the fire action plan and working emergency evacuation procedures and plan.

HEALTH AND SAFETY PROCEDURE

Medical Emergency

In case of heart attack, cuts/lacerations, asthma, or pre-existing condition, etc. follow this:

  • Call emergency 999
  • Administer first aid as appropriate.
  • Contact the concern administration.
  • Keep uninvolved people away.

Fire Action Plan and Emergency Evacuation Procedures

Any person discovering a fire follow this:

  • Sound the fire alarm
  • Call emergency 999
  • Assess situation.
  • Tackle the fire if possible, using the appropriate fire extinguisher as trained.
  • In any circumstance do not put yourself at risk

Upon Hearing the Fire Alarm or When Instructed to Leave The Building

Cease all activities and follow this:

  • Leave the building immediately by the nearest safe emergency exit.
  • While leaving switch of all electrical appliances
  • Close all doors behind you on your way.
  • Report to the Assembly Point at the ground floor car park in front of the building.
  • Never use the lift in an emergency
  • Do not take a risk by re-entering the building until it is safe to do so.

Armed/ Aggressive Intruder

Building invasion, armed intrusion follows this:

  • Always consider your safety
  • Be deliberate in your actions.
  • If possible, move the situation away from other staff.
  • Observe the offender, (height, weight, age, clothing and speech, disabilities, accented)
  • Restrict access to all personnel.
  • Evacuate quietly- once notified to do so.
  • Do not approach the offender.
